About 40 thousand Americans cross the Niagara bridges heading to Caribbean Carnival. And they told us today it’s been one traffic headache after another.

The border backup coming into Canada on the Peace Bridge — the wait was an hour or more.
“This is the first time coming to Canada and having such a hard time with traffic. This is the first time we had traffic at the customs gate and traffic on the roads.”
Carlene Morales was driving up from Maryland and making a fast food stop in Beamsville on the way to Toronto. She had no idea about the traffic nightmare up ahead in Burlington: “We’re not looking forward to it. With two kids in the car. Not fun.”
This woman had just driven seven hours from Philadelphia: “Didn’t expect the road to be closed. Is there a detour or something?”
She wasn’t the only one blindsided by the bridge closure.
“Being I’m not from here, I didn’t know it affected us. I told her to check to see if that’s the bridge we have to go over.”
This woman from Maryland stopped in Vineland and was hoping to be in Toronto within an hour: “I’m just learning about this. And I hope our GPS with accommodate this. And
we can get to Toronto. (Did you know the highway’s closed up ahead.) Is it. Can’t go to QEW to 427?”
Not without a long detour through Hamilton.
“I’m not prepared for it. But I’ll do it.”
Everyone that we talked to said that despite the detours and delays, they have a lot of fun at Carnival and they would have come here anyway.
