Fans of the Toronto Blue Jays have a day to catch their breath before the next round of the playoffs.

The Jays scored a dramatic 6-3 win over Texas in a tension-filled game at the Rogers Centre last night to clinch the American League Division Series and send Toronto to the A-L Championship Series tomorrow night in Kansas City.

The Blue Jays are just the third team in MLB history to come all the way back from being down two games in a five-game series. It’s their first post-season series win in 22 years.

Jose Bautista hit a stunning three-run home run in the seventh inning as the Blue Jays rallied to beat the Rangers after losing the first two games of the series.

Bautista’s blast came after the Jays gave up a run on a bizarre throwing error by catcher Russell Martin in the top of that inning that saw a throw back to the mound bounce off Shin-Soo Choo’s bat and allow Rougned Odor at third to score with two out.

The umpire had called time but quickly realized that the ball was properly still in play since Choo, looking towards the pitcher, had not knowingly interfered.

The call prompted some fans to throw debris onto the field in disgust, delaying play for several minutes, while the Jays played the rest of the game under protest.

The Royals advanced last night with a commanding 7-2 win over Houston.

Game Two goes Saturday, then the series will return to Toronto on Monday night — election night.
