Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been released from a Buffalo hospital Wednesday, more than a week after he went into cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated during a football game in Cincinnati.

“We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged,” the Bills wrote in a news release quoting Dr. Jamie Nadler.

Nadler said Hamlin will continue his rehabilitation with the Bills.

Hamlin is returning home following two days of tests at Buffalo General Medical Center. He was transferred to Buffalo on Monday after spending last week at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he experienced what doctors called “a remarkable recovery.”

The 24-year-old collapsed on the field after being struck in the chest by Bengals receiver Tee Higgins while making a routine tackle during the first quarter of Buffalo’s since-cancelled game in Cincinnati on Jan. 2.

He was under sedation during the first two days he was in hospital. He was awakened and able to grip people’s hands at his bedside. On Friday, he was taken off a ventilator and able to address his teammates.

Hamlin has been tweeting his gratitude to fans and medical staff.

Physicians have said it is too early to comment on the potential cause of Hamlin’s cardiac arrest.
