Biden to join Trudeau in Ottawa for first in-person, bilateral meeting

U.S. President Joe Biden arrives in Ottawa this evening for his first official state visit to Canada since he took office in 2021.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie, will host Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at Rideau Cottage for the evening.
White House National Security Council spokesman, John Kirby, says the first year of Biden’s term centred on rebuilding relations with Canada, and prioritizing orderly and safe migration through regular pathways.
The visit also includes a state dinner at the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum.

Senior U.S. officials confirmed Biden plans to have what is known as a “pull-aside” conversation with official opposition leader Pierre Poilievre, as well as Canada’s other party leaders.
On Wednesday, Poilievre said that conservatives want to see the White House end its “buy American” policies, which industry leaders in Canada say could hurt workers and the economy.
Ottawa police have warned that security is going to be very tight during the visit.
