Beef recall grows even more
Video updated: It’s now become one of the biggest recalls in Canadian history.
The country’s food inspection agency has added more items to that list of beef products that may be contaminated by e.coli. The number of recalled beef products is now over 500… and officials say that number could still grow.
All the products were processed at Alberta’s XL Foods. E.coli was first detected there about four weeks ago.
Yesterday, inspection officials said they have the test results from nine people who contracted e.coli in Alberta. They haven’t confirmed if all the cases are associated with beef from the Alberta plant, but they had previously said at least four are.
The expanded list of recalled products include cuts of steaks and roasts, and beef breakfast sausage and covers every province and territory. The recall also includes many unlabelled and unbranded beef products sold at small retailers and butcher shops.
All consumers are being advised to ask if the beef they’re buying comes from XL Foods.
