Bat found in Brantford confirmed to have rabies, one person being treated

A man is being treated for exposure to rabies after a bat found in the Brantford-Brant area tested positive for the potentially lethal virus.

Grand Erie Public Health says the person exposed to that bad is receiving post-exposure rabies treatment.

The risk of contracting rabies in Ontario is low, but if left untreated, the disease is almost always fatal to humans.

Residents are asked to avoid touching or feeding wild animals, especially those that are injured, sick, or behaving oddly.
