Russia’s Federal Security Service says 40 people were killed and more than 100 were wounded in an attack at a Moscow concert hall.

The attack, which Russian authorities are investigating as terrorism, is the deadliest in Russia in recent years.

According to reports, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack. Russian media is reporting several gunmen burst into the concert hall on the edge of Moscow today and opened fire as people took cover.

The attackers also started a massive blaze at the building. The venue is still on fire and the death toll may rise. Russian media reports that the venue’s roof is collapsing.

The attack comes days after President Vladimir Putin cemented his grip on the country in what has been called a highly orchestrated electoral landslide.

There are reports of four to five gunmen involved but that’s not confirmed. Russian media reported a second blast at the venue and that some of the gunmen had barricaded themselves somewhere in the building.

It’s not immediately clear who the attackers are. There were also reports earlier on Friday that 100 people were evacuated while some were still on the roof.

An eyewitness of the event says they saw many wounded and many lying down on the ground when the shooting happened but it wasn’t clear how many people were wounded.

Another eyewitness says they were at the furthest corner when the events occurred and they say there was no panic and people involved were all calm.

Ukraine has denied involvement in the attack and the adviser to the Ukranian president posted on X saying they certainly have nothing to do with it and that it makes no sense whatsoever.
