A Hamilton Police sergeant in trouble for questionable medical claims was back before a tribunal today, but it will be at least a month before there is any resolution.
There was new information in the Police Services Act hearing for Sgt Jason Howard: the agreed statement of facts between his lawyer and the prosecution is inaccurate.
Sgt Howard has pleaded guilty to falsifying 23 benefit claims totaling $960 for physiotherapy and other services dating back to 2013. Part of the claims were for appointments that he never attended.
Today it was revealed that the timeline that each side is working from is different. The two lawyers will have to reconvene and work out the details. This is especially important because the prosecutor for the police service is calling for Sgt Howard’s dismissal.
Because of this new information, Sgt Howard could be required to re-take the stand. The two sides will meet again on November 2nd.
