Hamilton man charged with arson following thrift store fire

A man has been charged with arson following a multiple-alarm fire in the area of James Street North in Hamilton on Thursday.

Hamilton’s fire alert website says that as many as 20 trucks were dispatched to the permanently closed New Horizons Thrift Store at 520 James St. North.

Roads in the area were closed as crews battled the fire.

Officers tell CHCH News that they canvassed the area and located a 43-year-old local man with soot on his feet and clothing. He was arrested accordingly and charged with arson.

As of now, there are no reports of injuries and the amount of damage the building sustained is still unknown.
