Many see it as a defining moment for Canada, the time when we stepped onto the world stage.
Today marks the 96th anniversary of the battle of Vimy Ridge. At the time the Canadians attacked Vimy Ridge, it was key to the German defence. Located just 150 kilometers from Paris, anyone sitting atop the ridge enjoyed a visual advantage over their enemy.
Both the French and British tried to take the ridge before Canadians had their shot. But Canada was successful. Sean Leathong tells us the victory was for King and country, but it became our victory at home.
