Stamps Ticats preview

It’s still up in the air as to where the Ticats will be playing their Labour Day game. But we do know they’ll be on the field at Ron Joyce Stadium Saturday afternoon. The 1-5 Ticats will host the 5-1 Calgary Stampeders.

Dan Lefevour only played about half of the game the last time the Ticats and Stampeders met. As you may recall, Jeremiah Masoli started in week three. But this time around, Lefevour is confident his team will overcome and surpass that three point deficit: “They have a great pass rush. They work well together. No gaping holes. Just a matter of execution and we have to try to be better than them.”

And, being better also means reducing the number of avoidable penalties. Overall, penalties are up 30 percent across the league, but Kent Austin has warned his players that repeat offenders will see less playing time. With six penalties for a total loss of 92 yards this season, Brandon Stewart is aware of his mistakes: “A lot are controllable penalties. Some on special teams. I’m conscious. Doesn’t make me worry more, play a little bit smarter.”

Not surprisingly, the Cats confirmed that Mossis Madu will start in place of ankle-bitten C.J Gable. However, Ticats G.M. And Coach Kent Austin says: “We did get good news. Yesterday on a medical report, it’s not as serious as it could have been, but he’s not gonna be healthy to play.”

Austin didn’t rule-out Gable for the Labour Day Classic which — with next week’s bye — is the next time the Cats will see action on the gridiron.

Dan Lefevour: “We have 2 1/2 weeks until the next game. It would be nice to end this part of the season on a positive note, going into the next chapter in out new stadium.”
