There were two serious truck rollovers at each end of the Niagara Peninsula today. In one incident, the wheels got caught in the ditch; in the other — the front wheel blew out.
An environmental tanker veered off the QEW, and landed on its side, on top of the chain link fence near the South Service Road in Jordan. The driver lost control when the front tire blew out.
Owen Webb and Josh Berman heard it happen. “We heard the tire pop, and that’s when we looked over. We saw the truck come through the ditch and flip over.”
The window was smashed, the two men inside scrambled out. One was lying on the ground, they thought he had a broken leg. “One guy had a bit of a gash on his head, and a little cut.”
The truck destroyed a highway sign, and took out about 20 metres of fencing.
This was the second serious transport truck crash in Niagara today. Very early this morning in Wainfleet, a transport packed with live chickens flipped over after its back wheels got stuck in the ditch. It took a took a crane a few hours to lift it upright.
