Brantford murder suspect arrested in Northern Ontario

A man wanted on murder charges in connection with Brantford’s first homicide of the year has been arrested.

Roger VanEvery, 35, was taken into custody in Northern Ontario around 2 a.m. Thursday.

He is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempt murder with a firearm and conspiracy to commit murder.

Brantford police previously arrested 22-year-old Shajjad Idrish, of Hamilton, in connection with the early morning shooting on Feb. 8.

A 42-year-old man died in hospital after he was found suffering from a gunshot wound at a Brantford motel on Colborne St. East. Two other Brantford men, aged 25 and 26, were also injured.

Two other men have also been arrested in connection with the incident but police have not released their identities.

Brantford police thanked the Anishinabek Police Service, the North Bay Police Service and the OPP for their cooperation and assistance in this investigation as well as Six Nations Police, Hamilton Police, London Police Service, and Norfolk County OPP.
