Arrest made after fatal hit-and-run of 81-year-old cyclist in Burlington

Halton police have arrested a 41-year-old woman from North York after a hit-and-run that killed an 81-year-old cyclist in Burlington.

The collision happened around 2:30 p.m. last Thursday on North Shore Blvd. near the QEW overpass.

Police say the 41-year-old has been charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in death and careless driving causing death.

Investigators say the 81-year-old man was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Halton police issued a release after the crash asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect vehicle.

Officers believed it to be a recent model silver Volkswagen Jetta with damage to its hood, windshield and the front right of the body.
