Cancer faker back in court

Another court date has been set for a St. Catharines woman who pleaded guilty to faking terminal cancer in order to defraud a senior citizen out of her life savings.
The crown wants the court to “throw out” 39-year-old Michelle Meade’s “guilty” plea from last year. He says when Meade showed up for sentencing in December — her pre-sentence report made it clear that she did not take responsibility for the fraud — and blamed others for pushing her into the plea. 78-year old Jean Beausaert be-friended Meade in 2007 when she was dating her grandson. Meade told Beausaert she was dying of brain cancer, and needed money for treatments. The crown says Meade swindled more than 100-thousand dollars over the next few years. Beausaert is now in danger of losing her house. The case comes back July 18th. If the plea is thrown out, the trial starts again from the beginning. If it’s not thrown out, the court will proceed with sentencing.
