Niagara police have charged a man for his alleged role in building material thefts across Lincoln and West Lincoln, and recovered nearly $17,000 in stolen property.
On Thursday, a suspect was identified and a search warrant was granted for a rural property on Merritt Road in Lincoln.
Investigators seized hundreds of pieces of lumber and plywood, 700 litres of diesel fuel and $4,800 in Canadian currency.
Police have arrested and charged 55-year-old Manuel Pereira of Lincoln with two counts of theft over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.

Pereira remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing Friday at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St Catharines.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in locating a stolen Wacker Neuson tamper they believe was recently sold, valued at about $20,000 with the serial number 10274586.
