The Hamilton City Centre was closed for about 12 hours Sunday, as police dealt with what they called an “emotionally disturbed person.”

Officers were there from about 1:00 a.m. until around 1:00 p.m.

Police asked people to stay away from the downtown mall, but have since re-opened it.

Hamilton Police say effective communication, the use of external resources and professionalism helped to keep the situation under control.

The person involved in this disturbance is now safe and getting help.
