This weekend marked Sir John A. Macdonald’s 199th birthday, and Sunday, The Sir John A. Macdonald Society” was celebrating the event.

They marched to the monument of Canada’s first Prime Minister in Gore Park, and laid wreaths in his honour. “Oh Canada”, “God Save the Queen”, and “Happy Birthday” were also sung. The celebration is an annual tradition that has lasted 48 years.

The Sir John A. Macdonald Society says next year’s celebration will be especially important, because it will be Canada’s founding prime minister’s 200th birthday.
