Family loses belongings in fire

A single mother and her four children, ages 5 to 15, have lost most of their possessions after fire destroyed the house they had been renting for three years on Southworth Street in Welland.

The family was in the process of moving out, but most of their belongings were still inside the home, along with two kittens, when it went up in flames on Saturday.

A family friend tells CHCH News that the mother is devastated, especially with it being this close to Christmas.

Investigators from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office will try to determine the cause today.
