Toronto Police seize $12M in counterfeit goods

Toronto Police have seized $12 million worth of counterfeit goods as part of an investigation called Project Pace II.

Hundreds of items, including fake Kate Spade purses, Chanel perfume, UGG boots and knock-off Tiffany jewelery, were seized during investigations across the GTA. Inspector Bryce Evans says the counterfeit items were sold on Groupon and even outside the Rogers Centre during sporting events.

“During the month of September through October 25th the Toronto Blue Jays began post season games in the World Series playoffs. Anticipating a large amount of counterfeit products being sold near the Rogers Centre, officers began enforcement of the Copyright Act.”

“Four persons were charged and a large quantity of counterfeit Blue Jays jerseys were seized.”

Toronto Police say Project Pace had allowed them to work with other law enforcement agencies and private groups to combat this problem.
