All the medals have been handed out and the event that was more than 6 years in the making is over. Whatever your thoughts were on the Pan Am games they certainly have left their mark on the region.

There were 32 soccer matches played in Hamilton, our women’s and men’s teams saw big crowds and the gold medal games were sell outs, as was the Canadian men’s opening round loss to the Brazillians. In all the Pan Am games managed to sell just over a million tickets, there were 1.4 million available. But did that translate to business in the area?

On average Vrancor hotels, that is the Sheraton, Homewood suites, and also the Staybridge suites saw about 63% occupancy, with a total revenue of $1.8 million. But July is typically a down month and this was the best July on record.

Many of the businesses on Ottawa street were expecting big things during Pan Am because the stadium was so close by, but as it played out the ones we spoke with said they were left a little underwhelmed.
