A busy plaza in east Hamilton is the focus of a fire investigation tonight. The fire happened at a sushi restaurant, and closed several businesses. It caused thousands in damages, and tonight investigators describe the fire as suspicious.

The fire call came in at 3:33 this morning. Hamilton Fire rushed to Osechi Sushi on Queenston Road. When they arrived, firefighters put out the blaze and say the cause was obviously suspicious.

People who live in the area say they woke up to several police cars in the area. They say a suspicious fire concerns them. “I’m confident Hamilton Police can handle it but it does make me think twice you know. It could happen to anyone, right?”

The fire temporarily put neighbouring restaurants out of business too. Pizza Pizza and Pho Dau Bo had to close their doors for half of the day which meant a loss for their cash registers.

The fire caused $20, 000 in damage to Osechi Sushi. Pizza Pizza had minor damage to its ceiling. The property manager couldn’t say if surveillance video was available to capture an image of any suspects.
