A Hamilton woman is dead following a five-vehicle crash on the Toronto-bound QEW Monday morning.
OPP say a motorcycle, two passenger vehicles, a minivan and a pickup truck were involved in the crash that happened shortly before 6 a.m. The 51-year-old driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash closed all Toronto bound lanes for six hours.
Emergency crews from the Hamilton Fire Department, Burlington Fire Department, Hamilton Paramedics and Halton Paramedics all responded to the scene.
This is the 37th motorcyclist death on Ontario’s highways in 2017. “We’re now surpassed the number of motorcycle fatalities that we’ve seen in over a decade,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
All Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW were shut down for several hours but have since reopened.
