Two injured after Porter flight nearly collides with possible drone

Two crew members of a Porter Airlines flight were slightly hurt when their plane narrowly missed colliding with what may have been a drone.

The flight was coming to Billy Bishop Airport from Ottawa on Monday with 54 passengers on board.

The pilots initially thought the object in their path was a balloon and when they attempted to evade the object, two flight attendants were tossed about in the cabin.

The plane landed safely and the flight attendants were taken to hospital as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

Transport Canada issued a warning in November about the dangers of drones. Users must stay away from flying within nine kilometres of an airport or helicopter landing pad and no higher than 90 metres.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is still investigating the incident.
