Copyright fees struck down

The Supreme Court of Canada has struck down copyright fees levied on a range of music and video games in rulings on five separate cases.

In one of the biggest cases, the court upheld the view of school boards that photocopying material for students in school does not infringe the copyright act.

The court also decided there should be no fees levied when music is downloaded, but that artists should be compensated when it is streamed online.
