Hamilton Police make arrest in 2019 murder of senior

Police have made an arrest in the murder of a Hamilton man in 2019.

Officers were called to a Stoney Creek apartment on Sept. 29. They found the body of a man inside the apartment.

It was the city’s eighth homicide of 2019.

The man was identified as 76-year-old Gerald Lawrence, who was known as Gerry.

Police say he had been fatally stabbed.

On Wednesday, police made an arrest after a yearlong investigation.

Sandro De Oliveira, 48, of Hamilton was arrested and is facing a charge of second-degree murder.

Police say De Oliveira and the victim were acquaintances.
