Both drivers killed in head-on collision on Hwy. 401 in Toronto

Two drivers are dead following a wrong-way, head-on collision on Hwy. 401 in Toronto early Sunday morning.

Members of the OPP Highway Safety Division say the crash happened at around 5:30 a.m. in the eastbound collector lanes west of Bayview Ave.

Police say a 35-year-old woman from Mississauga was travelling westbound in the eastbound lane when it struck a car driven by a 53-year-old man from Angus.

Police closed all eastbound collector lanes and directed traffic to express lanes while they investigated.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said several accidents were reported on Sunday after snow fell in the Golden Horseshoe overnight.
