Local police say one person is dead after a serious three-vehicle collision on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Niagara Falls Wednesday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the crash happened in the area of Thorold Stone Road and Mountain Road, involving three vehicles: a tractor trailer and two passenger vehicles.

They say the truck driver was killed and a driver of one of the other vehicles was injured.

“One person has been taken to a trauma center by an ORNGE ambulance, and we’re waiting for updates on that person’s condition as well,” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

Schmidt says both the eastbound — Fort-Erie bound — and the Toronto-bound directions of the highway are closed.

Officers posted on X at around 3 p.m. saying that the investigation and clean up will be extensive, and for drivers to expect delays and avoid the area.

Niagara police say they are assisting the OPP, and have closed the roads in both directions between Glendale Avenue and Thorold Stone Road.

Investigators say they do not have reports of any other significant injuries at this time.

This is a breaking news story. More to come.
