Hamilton police are investigating multiple suspicious fires, including a Level 1 structure fire at a vacant industrial building.

On Sunday at around 11:47 a.m., fire crews responded to Sherman Avenue North at Biggar Avenue after a report of a rubbish fire.

Upon arrival, the first crews encountered a large, vacant industrial building on the west side of Sherman Avenue, with heavy black smoke visible.

Firefighters say the incident was upgraded to a Level 1 structure fire after crews reported multiple well-involved fires in and around the building.

Crews worked to extinguish all fires and completed a primary search of the building. Nobody was found inside.

The incident commander also assigned crews to extinguish two additional dumpster fires located west of the original incident.

Crews say all dumpsters on the property were inspected to ensure there were no further signs of fire.

No financial loss was reported as a result of the fires.
