Oakville fire says there were no injuries following a blaze in an apartment building’s electrical room that left around $50,000 to $100,00 of damages.

Crews say the alarm was received at 1:17 a.m. on Wednesday and was activated by the building notification fire alarm at 80 Speers Road.

Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire within the electrical room, with heavy smoke in the basement and minor smoke migration through the lower levels of the building.

Crews say power is currently disconnected at 80 Speers, with power to 20 Speers, 30 Speers and 50 Speers roads being isolated during the fire.

An investigation is pending, with Oakville Hydro on site awaiting the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) to verify if power can be restored to the building.

Firefighters say the building was partially evacuated during the blaze and residents are returning to their units with the assistance of fire and police.

Crews say if power is unable to be restored, Red Cross will be notified to coordinate finding accommodations for the displaced residents.
