Waterloo Regional Police have charged a Burlington man in connection with a projector sales scam, which targeted residents in the Waterloo region.

Officers say between Aug. 26, and Sept. 18, they received five reports of individuals attempting to sell projectors at significantly discounted prices near post-secondary campuses.

They say in these incidents, the low-cost projectors were rebranded and marketed as high-end models to deceive potential buyers.

Following an investigation, police arrested a 23-year-old man and charged him with 11 criminal offences, including fraud over $5,000, fraud under $5,000, and uttering a forged document.

The accused was held in police custody for a bail hearing.

Investigators are reminding residents to be cautious of unsolicited offers that appear too good to be true, and to avoid giving cash, or personal information to unknown individuals.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
