Hamilton police are investigating a telephone fraud incident, in which suspects identified themselves as local officers and asked for cash.

The suspects were allegedly able to display the police non-emergency line (905-546-4925) on the intended victim’s phone.

The person was then asked to go to a police station with cash, to address a bogus fraud incident.

Hamilton Police Services says its officers will not ask for cash in this manner.

They say if there is any doubt on the authenticity of a phone call from the Hamilton police, people are encouraged to attend the front desk of any police station and speak with a uniformed officer.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-546-8932.

Tips can also be provided to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
