Multiple-alarm fire, explosion on Hamilton Mountain ‘shakes neighbourhood’

A multiple-alarm fire on Hamilton Mountain in the area of Springside Drive has caused an explosion that was felt by residents in the area.

Crews say the fire took place between Alderlea Avenue and Spalding Drive.

Neighbours in the area tell CHCH News that they heard a large explosion shortly after 7 a.m. and that they could feel it from two streets over. They described it as shaking their house.

Videos show that the flames were above the house and the fire appears to have started in the two-car garage that was behind the home.

Smoke is visibly present and fire crews are on the scene.

Police told neighbours that occupants were home when the fire broke out, but everyone managed to escape safely.

This is a developing story. More to come.
