Hamilton staff anticipate Sherman Access will reopen mid-October

Hamilton city staff anticipate that the Sherman Access — locally also known as the Sherman Cut — will reopen by mid-October, after the original completion date was pushed back from earlier this month.

They say the revised timeline reflects construction-related challenges, including harder-than-anticipated rock conditions which slowed drilling operations, and the need for more extensive cleaning of the escarpment face and the work area — work that requires some activities to be done sequentially rather than at the same time.

City staff also say wildfire smoke and periods of adverse weather over the summer also affected progress.

A statement from a City of Hamilton spokesperson reads, “we recognize this closure is disruptive for residents, businesses and everyone who travels through this area. We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete these important infrastructure improvements.”
