Hamilton man pleads guilty to three more charges in drugging, sexual assault case

A man accused of drugging and sexually assaulting several women, and then sharing videos of those assaults online, has pleaded guilty in court to three more charges.

That brings what was expected to be a 17-day trial to a quick end, but the Crown is now looking to have Bryan Hayward designated as a dangerous offender.

Hayward submitted his guilty pleas in person at Hamilton’s John Sopinka Courthouse Friday afternoon. The three charges relate to the assault and drugging of two more women, as well as the results of a search warrant at his home.

In an agreed statement of facts read out to the court, the 37-year-old man admits to administering various drugs — including what’s known as “date rape drugs” and chloroform — to one woman over the course of three years.

Hayward made at least 11 different videos of him assaulting the woman while she was either fully unconscious or unable to consent. There are additional instances where the woman was drugged, but not filmed.

The victims’ identities are protected by a standard publication ban.

In another instance, a woman went to Hayward’s Hamilton apartment on a September night in 2023. She took drugs there that she believed to be cocaine, but Hayward later informed her it was GHB — a nervous system depressant that causes confusion, dizziness, a loss of consciousness and vomiting.

The woman was unconscious for so long that the next day her family filed a missing person report. She was located at Hayward’s apartment disoriented, but no charges were laid.

Hayward was arrested in May last year. A police search of his devices found messages he sent other men, advising them of how much GHB to administer to make someone pass out and claiming that he’s been doing this to women “for years.”

In June, Hayward pleaded guilty in court to drugging and sexually assaulting seven women. Those cases also saw Hayward record some incidents and share them online.

The Crown also informed the court that it would be seeking a “dangerous offender designation” that could allow the judge to sentence Hayward to prison without a set release date.

Hayward is expected to be back in court briefly next month so that lawyers can check in. But the Crown warns its application for a dangerous offender designation will likely take longer than that.
