Hamilton East – Stoney Creek elects PC Jeff Beattie as MPP

Hamilton East Stoney Creek has a new Member of Provincial Parliament as of Thursday night.

Unofficial results from Elections Ontario show that Progressive Conservative Candidate Jeff Beattie has won the byelection.

In a scrum with reporters after his win was declared, Beattie says his knowledge as a city councillor will be beneficial for working with the city on provincial matters.

“Having some, I’m going to call it, inside knowledge of how things work at City Hall and being able to bring that to the table, to get more done for the city and team Hamilton approach and for the region, I call it a broader, Golden Horseshoe approach,” says Beattie.

The newly elected MPP was joined by Ontario Premier Doug Ford.

“I just want the people of Ontario, and of all of Canada to know that we’re going to continue to fight against Donald Trump. We’re going to make sure we protect people’s jobs, protect their communities and protect them,” says Ford.

New Democratic Party candidate, Monique Taylor, finished the night about 1,600 votes behind Beattie.

Elections Ontario is reporting a 29 per cent voter turnout for the riding.

Polling stations closed at 9 p.m. Thursday evening.

The Hamilton East – Stoney Creek seat was left vacant after former MPP Neil Lumsden announced his retirement on Aug. 4, 2026.

Six candidates were vying for the seat:

• Jeff Beattie, Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario
• Heather Curnew, Ontario Party
• Wieslawa Derlatka, New Blue Party
• Heino Doessing, Ontario Liberal Party
• Pascale Marchand, Green Party of Ontario
• Monique Taylor, Ontario New Democratic Party

Prior to Lumsden’s election, Paul Miller from the NDP, held the riding for 15 years.
