The economy has grown at its fastest pace in over three years in the second quarter according to Statistics Canada.
The agency reports that real GDP rose 3.3 per cent in the second quarter on an annualized basis, with June alone seeing a 0.3 per cent increase.
StatCan says exports soared last quarter as auto production recovered after moving unsteadily over the past six months.
Meanwhile, business capital investment grew by 2.3 per cent in the second quarter, ending five consecutive quarters of decline.
In May, StatCan’s report suggested that the economy had contracted marginally in the first quarter of 2026, sparking some debate over whether Canada might be in a recession.
However, the agency’s regular revisions now indicate the economy actually saw slightly positive growth in the first quarter.
