Stoney Creek hockey player hospitalized after workout collapse

Stoney Creek’s Matthew Mayich is in hospital after the Arizona State University hockey player collapsed during an outdoor exercise.

The university is reviewing the circumstances surrounding last Thursday’s outdoor workout that sent the St. Louis Blues prospect to hospital.

St. Louis Blues President Doug Armstrong says the organization has been kept informed about his condition and is supporting his family.

“The entire Blues organization is keeping Matthew Mayich close to our hearts as we pray for his comfort and recovery while he continues to undergo medical treatment in Arizona. His agent has kept us informed about Matthew’s medical status over the last week and we extend our deepest support to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time,” Armstrong said in a statement.

Before making the leap to the NCAA, Mayich played four seasons with the OHL’s Ottawa 67s.
