Welland horse cruelty incident unsolved one year after crime: police

An animal cruelty incident involving multiple horses in Welland remains unsolved one year after the crime was committed.

The incident occurred overnight, between July 30 and July 31, 2025, at a horse boarding farm near Buchner Road and Highway 140.

Eight horses sustained injuries consistent with cuts or stab wounds, and one horse was found dead.

Another horse was brought to an out-of-town veterinary hospital for emergency care and several others received treatment on-site.

Detectives are again asking the public for help in the investigation.

Niagara police “takes allegations of animal cruelty very seriously,” reads a police statement.

Crime Stoppers may offer cash rewards for information that leads to an arrest.
