Niagara police ongoing open air drug initiative leads to additional arrests

Niagara police arrested six people Friday who were allegedly seen consuming illicit drugs on Main Street in Niagara Falls, as part of an ongoing initiative to crack down on open-air drug use.

Officers say they seized over 20 glass pipes and various drug paraphernalia.

Investigators say they implemented a no-tolerance approach to open-air drug use in response to community concerns.

They say the individuals that were arrested were also provided with information on available community resources and treatment options.

Last month, members of the Niagara police Community Oriented Response and Engagement team arrested seven people for public drug use in the area of Main and Ferry streets in the City of Niagara Falls.
