Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say all lanes of the highway reopened four hours later following major delays on the QEW Fort Erie bound through Grimsby.
On Thursday, OPP said a piece of construction paving equipment became disabled during paving activities on the highway after Bartlett Avenue.
The large construction equipment caused two left lanes to remain closed for an extended period of time, but one lane remained open through Grimsby.
OPP said a heavy crane had to be brought in to remove equipment.
