Oakville declares significant weather event after Thursday storm

The Town of Oakville has declared a significant weather event after Thursday’s storm, suspending the town’s standard timelines for parks and roads maintenance services.

This declaration began at 12 p.m. on Friday and will continue until further notice, allowing crews the flexibility to prioritize storm response activities related to downed trees and damaged tree limbs resulting from the storm.

Crews have been working continuously to focus on clearing fallen trees and large branches that have fallen on hydro lines or are blocking roads, sidewalks and other public spaces.

The town says residents may notice longer than usual response times due to the high volume of service requests and ask them to be patient while cleanup is underway.

Drivers are being advised to drive safely, watch for crews working on the roadside and to stay away from all hydro wires on the ground.
