A popular beach in St. Catharines is set for an official re-opening today after a multimillion-dollar makeover.
Mat Siscoe and local members of provincial parliament will be at Sunset Beach on Lombardy Avenue at 9 a.m. to mark the moment.
A 2019 community vision study helped launch the project, with renovations starting in 2023.
The province pitched in $4.4 million towards the $6.9 million venture. The remaining $1.6 million, just under 30 per cent of the total, came from the city of St. Catharines.
The renovations include an expanded parking area that can now accommodate 185 vehicles, boat ramps and improved landscaping and access routes, including gardens and dunes, sidewalks, stairs, fencing, new paved trails and a playground.
