Hamilton police charge five boys after speeding vehicle found stolen

Hamilton police have charged five boys following an investigation into a speeding vehicle near King St. East and Sherman Ave. North Tuesday led to their arrest.

Officers say a black Acura SUV was allegedly seen travelling at a dangerous rate of speed in the area with multiple occupants inside the vehicle.

They say the SUV’s rear licence plate was displayed upside down.

Investigators followed the SUV and stopped the vehicle, where the occupants tried to flee on foot.

Officers say five boys were arrested without incident.

Detectives say inside the vehicle they found and seized multiple licence plates and drug paraphernalia, and an investigation found that the SUV had been reported stolen.

Five male youths have been charged with multiple offences including possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, occupying a motor vehicle without consent and possessing a prohibited weapon.

Officers have not disclosed any details regarding the identities of the five boys.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
