JUNO winner Susan Aglukark, also an Officer of The Order of Canada, held a special performance in Ohsweken Wednesday to celebrate their groundbreaking career and the release of her new book.
The Indigenous Performing Arts Alliance hosted a luncheon to celebrate the release of Aglukark’s A Memoir of Healing.
In the book, she tells how art helped her navigate trauma and reclaim her identity.
“I feel like I had reached a point in my career — 30 years, over 30 years — where there was something to tell,” said Aglukark. “There has been a lot, there’s a lot more to come is our plan and our hope, but it was time to share some of the real important moments in my life that brought me here and kept me here.”
Aglukark was the first Inuit artist to win a JUNO award.
