Alberta comes one step closer to referendum vote in new year

The election agency in Alberta approved a proposed referendum question on Monday that would seek support for the province separating from the rest of Canada.

The question looks for a yes or no answer and is as follows: “Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?”

The separatist group leading the referendum – the Alberta Prosperity Project – now has the ability to start collecting signatures with one condition.

The group must find a financial officer before early January, then signature collection can officially begin.
