Driver charged after passenger critically injured in Norfolk County crash

A 23-year-old driver from Oxford County is facing multiple impaired driving charges after a serious single-vehicle crash early Friday morning that left a passenger in critical condition.
Emergency crews were called to the scene just after 1 a.m. following a collision involving a sedan near the border of Norfolk and Oxford counties.
Ontario Provincial Police say the passenger was ejected from the vehicle and airlifted to a trauma centre in critical condition.
“This is a really scary situation…but preventable,” OPP Const. Andrew Gamble said in a video posted on X.

“Impaired driving is the leading cause in collisions that result in serious injury or death…Your choices behind the wheel matter.”
The driver was taken into custody and is facing several charges related to impaired driving.
Police are asking members of the public to avoid the area due to ongoing road closures.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
