Commercial vehicle blitz sees 41 per cent of inspected trucks taken off Guelph roads

A commercial motor vehicle safety blitz in Guelph last Friday saw more than 40 per cent of inspected trucks taken off the road.

Guelph police hosted the Aug. 29 event, which also featured commercial vehicle safety officers from Waterloo, Halton and London police services and the OPP, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Finance and the Canadian Border Services Agency.

Officers inspected 34 trucks and took 14 out of service for various violations. Nearly four dozen charges were laid.

“Based on feedback from our community, road safety was identified as one of the Guelph Police Service’s key priorities in our latest Strategic Plan,” said Inspector Andrew Goody.

“Initiatives such as this safety blitz, and the resulting number of violations and unsafe vehicles taken out of service, demonstrate the ongoing need for proactive enforcement to protect the public from unsafe vehicles,” added Inspector Goody.
