The Canadian robot that hitchhiked its way across Canada and parts of Europe, before being destroyed in Philadelphia likely hasn’t taken its last ride. Brittany Gogo spoke to one of the co-creators today who says we may be seeing Hitchbot again in the future. Possibly even on the big screen!

The friendly Canadian hitchhiking robot that met its untimely end in Philadelphia this summer may be given another chance at life.

Hitchbot’s co-creator says they’ve been overwhelmed with support and offers to revive the child-sized robot.

“We are working with some publishers we have some film offers are wee are considering some offers from several countries around the world for next trips but as of today nothing is decided.”

The solar powered robot was on a road trip in the US after it successfully thumbed across Canada and parts of Europe when it was destroyed.

“We were able to recover the broken body of hitchbot minus the head so that’s still a mystery where that is.”

Thousands of supporters expressed their outrage and sadness on social media.

Hitchbot took photos every 20 minutes to share with the world and relied on strangers to travel from place to place while checking items off its bucket list.

“I think people really enjoyed the opportunity for some collective play a chance to see another side of life.”

Co-creator David Harris Smith who is also at prof at McMaster held a talk at the university Friday about the social experiment and Hitchbot’s life and travels. An experiment that has many people asking “what’s next!?”

A Kickstarter campaign that had raised more than $4,000 to replace Hitchbot has since been cancelled because the creators still aren’t sure what the robots future holds. But they aren’t ruling of the possibility that one day the robot will have its thumb out again at the side of the road.
