The Wizard of Oz has a new Dorothy.

The role played by Judy Garland in the classic film has been passed to newcomer Danielle Wade for the upcoming Toronto stage adaptation. The Andrew Lloyd Webber production is a totally reconceived stage concept containing all the familiar songs from the oscar-winning movie score, including new songs by Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice.

Wade is from Lasalle, Ontario and recently completed her second year of acting studies at the University of Windsor. The 20 year old was the winner in a poll by cross-Canada voters. She spoke with our Alex Reynolds earlier today:
